Everything Belongs to God

Lady of Light

If you read the introductory verses of Ps. 24, you get a true sense of perspective on the world:

"The earth is the Lord's and the fulness thereof; the world and they that dwell therein. For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods."

When we are distracted by the influences of this world and people's sense of ownership, we can reflect on these verses and realize that everything belongs to God. We belong to God. Not only that but in the manner of speaking "the fulness thereof" , this Psalm encourages us to be mindfulness of the fullness, rather than barrenness or emptiness.
Meditating on these verses causes me to realize the creation of God and be more conscious of nature and the good things of the earth. I can understand as a result of these verses, why many have a concern for the environment. We need to appreciate and care for all God has shared with us - including one another.

So, with this view in mind, appreciate the world around you - focus on what God has done for all of us. Not only did he send his son, Jesus, to die for our sins so that we can have eternal life, he has bountifully provided a fulness in the earth for us to enjoy.

God Bless You,

God Made Us

Lady of Light

I know that most of us believe that we are creations of God and children of God but sometimes, isn't it good to meditate on this fact? In Psalm 100 it tells us:

"It is He that has made us and not we ourselves. We are His people and the sheep of his pasture."

In today's world, we get our hair done, join excersize groups, get "Make Overs", and constantly do things for ourselves. We must think of this as maintaining ourselves as the creation of God that we are. Despite all the miracle vitamens, weight loss pills and plans, medicines, doctors, etc. it is God who is ultimately in control of it all.
He is the one who has the power over our lives, renews us in the spirit, keeps us healthy, guides us into His best for us - inside and out. He made us and knows everything about us, what to do for us, and how to make his word operable in our lives today.

It is a real blessing to know that an all-knowing God is in control of all of this and that we are blessed to be "his people and the sheep of his pasture."

I thank God that I am "fearfully and wonderfully made: as Ps. 137 tells us.

May you live in the knowledge and joy of being God's creation and one of his sheep.

God Bless You!

Do you have a Godly resume?

Lady of Light

When I read the book of Titus today, I was reminded of what the requirements for elders, bishops and godly women are.

When Paul left Titus in Crete, he wanted him to build and appoint leadership for the churches he built there. The men were to be husbands of one wife, sober, temperate, abounding in love, charity and every good work, with a godly wife and obedient children. No where did it speak about education, skills, job history or the things we think of when we apply for a job. Rich or poor, educated or uneducated.

It is HOW THEY LIVED THEIR LIFE that really counted.

The women were to be sober, temperate, modest, encouraging the younger women to love their husbands and children and to abound in every good work. Nothing about education, family background, skills, who you know etc. LIVE AN OBEDIENT LIFE and you will be considered worthy to lead in the church or to be the wife of one who leads. So, ladies, we can't stick together and complain about our husbands or children and side with each other! We have to encourage each other to love our husbands and children. Also, we can't slander anyone OR listen to slander.

As in Phillipians Chapter 4 we must think on: "Whatsoever is good, pure, lovely, of good report...." So the encounters we have with others are important as to their content.

I received a reply from a reader on "Faith Comes By Hearing" that if you want a free audio bible which is easy to listen to go to www.FaithComesByHearing.com. By listening or reading, you will end up doing more sharing.

So when choosing leaders or becoming a leader or a good follower, consider the characteristics in Titus and you can't go wrong because these are the things that God places a value on.

God Bless You,

Believe God

Lady of Light

In Romans Chapter 4:3, it says:

"For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God and it was counted unto him as righteousness."

Abraham had no reason to think in the natural that God would give him a child in his old age and he waited a long time for the promise to be fulfilled. His wife, Sarah
tried to "fix" the situation in the natural by having him impregnate their maid.
It's difficult to believe everything God says, and to wait on him to perform his miracles and work things out his own way. Later, Abraham obeyed God and went to sacrifice his son, Isaac, and trusted God, who sent an angel to provide tell him not to sacrifice his son, and God provided a ram.

God has given us so very many promises in his word. How often do we try to do things our own way or try to "hurry God up" instead of trusting, believing and waiting on him? If we fully believed everything God says, most of us would live differently, and we would always be joyful. There would be no depression, discouragement or loss.

Let's try to meditate on God's promises and believe them for our lives so that we can live more fully.

God Bless You!

Commit Thy Way Untio the Lord

Lady of Light

It is so wonderful to read the Psalms and glean some insight as to what we are supposed to do. In Psalm 37:5 it says:

"Commit thy way unto the Lord, trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass."

These are wonderful instructions and also a wonderful promise that the Lord shall bring to pass that which we commit to him and trust him with.

So often we think we need to do alot of practical preparation for the things we are involved in, but the three steps outlined in this Psalm should under gird our efforts from the beginning. COMMIT, TRUST, WAIT. EXPECT it to come to pass.

Prayer is the key to all that we do. When we get busy and involved, it is easy to forget this.

I was blessed when reading this Psalm because I am about to embark on some new things and also involvement with some new people. I commit it to the Lord and expect him to bring all good things to pass in my situation. You can do the same thing in your life and you will be blessed.

May God bless you!

Praise God with a Song

Lady of Light

As I read the Psalms, I am reminded that many were songs that were sung unto God. In Psalm 28:7, It tells us:

"The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him."

Strength, shield, song! There is something wonderful about singing to the Lord. I find myself ocasionally breaking out in song when I'm cleaning the house or walking around. Usually some melody from bible study or prayer meeting sticks with me and I start humming or singing. I am glad to know that when I do this, I am obeying the scripture.
It is a good feeling. It feels free. When I myself don't feel this way, I put on the CD player and listen to others sing. Just recently my husband and I were blessed to receive CD's recorded live from the gospel tent at the New Orleans Jazz festival that my daughter and her boyfriend attended. These were just spontaneous breaking out in song and meditation in song - very inspiring.

So, when the spirit moves you, praise God with a song and listen to praise music as much as you can. I know you will be blessed the same way I have been blessed.

God Bless You,

Faith Comes By Hearing

Lady of Light

When we think about the many things we hear each day and the messages that the brain hears, we must wonder, are we feeding our faith and the faith of others?
In Romans 10:17, it says:

"Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."

How much time do we spend listening to and sharing the Word of God in a day? While it is true that TV, Radio and the Internet all have spiritual messages, it is up to us to tune in to them and tune out so much of the other stuff that crowds our minds in a day.

I read Daily Word by Joel and Victoria Osteen every day. I receive it on the internet and I look forward to it because it gives me a bible verse, a meditation or lesson, and a prayer. It helps me to have something to share and to think about throughout my day as I am being inundated with many other stimuli. Daily Bread is good for this also, or just reading the Psalms and Proverbs of the date as we have discussed in the past. Memorization of bible verses also enables us to hear the word in our mind at any time.

So, if you come in contact with people during the day and you want to feed their faith, remember it comes by hearing the word of God. Share a good word with someone today, and meditate on a good word for yourself.

May God Bless You,

Share the Good News

Lady of Light

In the Gospel of Mark, Chapter Five, we find a man who is filled with demons who lives in the tombs. In Verse 9 it tells us

"My name is Legion, for we are many."

Jesus miraculously cast out these thousands of demons and the man was clothed and in his right mind. But the significant thing is that Jesus gave the man instructions

"Go home to thy friends and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee." Mark 5:19

How often do you think on the things the Lord has done for you and how often do you share this with your friends and family? It is what Jesus instructed this man to do. Perhaps he wants us to do the same.

I will say that the Lord delivered me from darkness and brought me into the light. He gave me salvation and renewed my mind and spirit. He delivered me from alcohol when I was 29 years old and has made me repent internally to obey him in my thoughts, attitudes and actions. Don't get me wrong. I still have to have an ongoing prayer dialogue with him, claiming I John 1:9

"If we confess our sins, he is just and faithful to forgive our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

It is a daily process and a daily journey but I know I can count on the Lord's forgiveness, guidance and strength.

The Lord often does good things for us through others.

One day I was meeting two of my friends at a small restaurant before church for coffee. A lady (all smiles and full of light) came into the restaurant. We were conversing - she asked us if we were going to church and told us what church she was going to. She was dressed up very nicely and I noticed a pretty gold leaf pin she was wearing on her lapel. I said,

"By the way, that is a lovely pin you are wearing."

She took the pin off and said,
"You can have it. I want you to have it because Jesus loves you and she gave me a big hug." Of course, at first, I didn't want to accept it. When I complimented her, I wasn't coveting the pin - just wanting to say something positive to her. But, the presence of the Lord was so strong as he surrounded me with his love through her hug, her words, and her utter generosity, I accepted it with tears in the back of my eyes.

Never had I seen such a demonstration of God's love so spontaneously from a stranger outside of the church. So, you see, God does miracles and blesses us when we least expect it. This has made me be a bit more outgoing in my faith, realizing how much God really can use us and work through us to bless others.

I challenge, not only myself, but you also to think of ways to be a blessing to strangers the way this woman was, and as the man in the tombs who was healed, share and tell others the good things God has done in your life.

God Bless You

Healthy Bones

Lady of Light

As we get older, in particular, the aches and pains appear in bones and joints and we suddenly notice all the supplements, magic cures and medicines that are supposed to cure all the ills. Some of these things can be very helpful, but, as I did my reading in the Proverbs these past few days, I noticed a few verses that speak about the health of the bones:

"Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health in the bones." Proverbs 16:24

I guess that our good thoughts as well as our speaking pleasant words have an internal effect on us as well as on others. Think of your daily interactions - greeting people on the way to shopping or work, neighbors, people on the streets, vendors in the local businesses, coworkers, people on the elevators, the staff at the doctors or dentist offices, what we read such as poetry or positive thoughts. I imagine even pleasant images also have an effect. That is one reason why I am looking forward to a visit to the local art gallery tomorrow, weather permitting. I also have some pleasant books - my dear friend from college gave me one that is colored photos of beautiful gardens all over the world. It only takes a few minutes to thumb through a book or magazine with pleasant photos or images. Take the time to bask in pleasantness as much as you can in your day - it may even bring better health to your bones as the bible says. Giving out and receiving pleasantries with others is not a waste of time. It is a positive activity in all ways.

"A merry heart doeth good like a medicine; but a broken spirit drieth the bones."
Proverbs 17:22

The condition of our heart effects our health- try to focus on good thoughts, happy memories, and positive dreams.

May you have a better time and better bones after meditating on these Proverbs!

God Bless You!

NEW EASY RECIPE FOR KITCHEN OR BARBEQUE

Lady of Light

I am always looking to cook something a little different - preferably easy and economical too! We went to bible study on Tuesday, and someone had made kielbasi. We hadn't thought about that in a long time and my husband said he would like me to make it. I went to the store and bought Hillshire Farms beef Kielbasi and called my neighbor whose family has done more Polish cooking than I. She gave me some advice on cooking and serving suggestions.

Polish Kielbasi

1 Kielbasi, boiled for 10-12 minutes
1 can of saurekraut
6 fresh carrots
4 medium red potatos
butter

Drain saurkraut, put in large pot with kielbasi and water
Cook for 10 -12 minutes

Peel, cut wedges, and boil potatoes covered in lightly salted water 20 minutes
Peel, slice and and boil carrots for 20 minutes.

Serve potatoes and carrots with butter on the side. Cut kielbasi in lengths or slices serve on top of sauerkraut.

To barbeque, use Kraft barbeque sauce and grill slowly on both sides turning often till browned and heated.

I hope you enjoy this suggestion. We sure did!

Have a good weekend!

God bless you

THANK GOD FOR COUNSEL

Lady of Light

I am thankful for my counselor - I have known her for ten years. She always listens patiently - is very well-versed in medical and psychological matters and relationships as well as being able to help me to continue to be goal oriented no matter what obstacles I face in life.

But, the most important counsel we have is the gift of God's Holy Spirit and the gift of his Word. In Proverbs 15:22, it says:

"Without counsel purposes are disappointed but in the multitude of counselors they are established."

We need to hear from God, not only through his Word, but also from others. My husband and I are blessed because we have two pastors available and close as well as Christian friends, and other pastors and elders. One pastor is new at our church next door and the other leads a neighborhood bible study a half block from our house. He is from Santo Domingo.

Be blessed when you hear God's word, and we also do this on TV with Charles Stanley and Joel Osteen on Sunday mornings and belong to a Christian book club where we can get the benefit of the knowledge and experience of others.

So, ask for God's guidance as to where to turn and who to turn to when you need to share and make decisions in life. God provides many opportunities for us if our eyes, ears and hearts are open.

May God Bless you.

Have a great weekend!

Prayer is a gift

Lady of Light

Prayer is a gift from God. He hears us, answers us and comforts us as we communicate with him. Maybe you are like me and have children, grandchildren and loved ones that you don't see as often as you would like. I figure, now that the children are grown, my job is to pray for them and their children every day. Not only do I know that we all need prayer, but this is one of the greatest "gifts you can give to anyone". Faithfully praying for loved ones is a good investment of time. God will reward your efforts and bless your loved ones too!

When I miss my children, grandchildren and loved ones, prayer helps me to be aware that I hold each one close in my heart and that God understands all of my feelings and concerns.

In Phillippians 4:6 the bible says:
"With prayer and supplication, and thanksgiving, make your requests known unto God and the peace of God which passeth all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds
through Christ Jesus."

Wishing you a blessed day as you take time to pray for loved ones.

God Bless You!

Get Wisdom and Understanding

Lady of Light

It is the first day of the month and so, following the devotional plan to read one chapter of Proverbs on the date of the day, and five Psalms, I am on Proverbs One.

Solomon, the son of David, was also writing to his own son. One thing I like about the Proverbs is that they represent a parent giving solid advice which we all need at any age! The first five verses state:

"The Proverbs of Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel; To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding; to receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity; to give subtlety to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion. A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels."

These are great goals - to obtain wisdom and understanding. God does give us that, but what if you delve into the scriptures, and think about your life situation and all that is happening in the world and don't really feel that you understand God's ways?

We must then take a look at Isaiah 55:8-9.

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts."

So, we can see that Isaiah was well aware of his human plight. It won't be until Tuesday that we officially get to Proverbs 3 in the devotional journey, but I am going to jump ahead from my memory and say that therefore we must heed the verses 5 and 6 of Chapter 3:

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding, In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy path."

This is very comforting to me that all I must do is trust and acknowledge him - I don't have to "analyze everything and figure it all out" - we do live in a complex world so I am relieved that I can follow this clear instruction and all will be well.
You, too, can do the same!

God Bless You!

Have a great day!

Major Life Decision: Obama Left the Church

Lady of Light

I was completely surprised this morning when I went on AOL news and read that "Obama has had enough" - he and his family have left the church! This is a major life decision and I know that he must have been led by God to take a strong stand against the things that have been said about him and our country by these pastors. He also realizes that, not only is it for the betterment of him and his family, but for the betterment of the church as well. I am not sure exactly how he came to this understanding except to say that the problems were not getting better and there didn't seem to be a positive resolution other than leaving.

I hope that all of you will pray that Obama and his family will be successful in finding a new church home. I know I am going to pray that God will sustain them and meet all of their needs. Before I even pray that prayer,I know that God will answer it because he supplies all of our needs.

Now, it is just a question as to whether Obama and Hillary will end up on the same ticket. Time will tell. I know that I must say, this puts me in the Obama camp where I wasn't before, because anyone who is going to be President of the United States must be able to take a strong stand on important issues, even when it is difficult.

Good luck, Obama! I especially welcome your comments today, my readers.

God bless you and have a great day!
