The Shield

Lady of light

We all need a shield, especially in today's world! Years ago, there used to be a TV commercial for Colgate toothpaste and it would show an individual knocking on an invisible glass or plastic and they would say, "Colgate has gardol, an invisible shield to protect your teeth."

In Psalm 3:3 David says: "But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory and the lifter of my head."

It is wonderful to me to know that as I go about in my day, I have a shield, and the Lord will be my glory and lift my head. You can see, as you walk around that different people have their heads in different positions. Some look down, and some hold their head up high. I am going to remember today to let the Lord lift me up high.

In verse 4, David says, "I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill." People don't always listen. People don't always respond. But the Lord will hear our voice. This reminder is a comfort to me because I know that God is with me in all things.

In verse 5, David says, "I laid me down and slept, and I awaked, for the Lord sustained me."

As I begin a new day, I realize that it is God who sustains me as I sleep and wake.
I have heard many pray, "Lord, thank you for waking me up today with a sound mind and body." I am so grateful to God every time I meet the dawn of a new day.

In these few passages, it can be seen that God truly meets our daily needs- he sustains us, he protects us and he hears us when we pray. Could we ask for more?

May God bless you on this day as you ponder these thoughts from His word.
