Soldiers

Lady of Light

We are told in scripture to be "soldiers for Christ" but on this Memorial Day weekend,
we need to remember our earthly soldiers in the United States who gave their lives and fought for our country. The freedom we have to worship God, read the bible and to be Christians is definitely related to the determination of our founding fathers and all of the many soldiers who have protected our country.

I would like to share a poem I wrote:

SOLDIERS
You leave your friends, your loved ones
And your families behind,
No one could possibly imagine
The things that go through your mind.

As you are continuously making sacrifices
To defend your country
Folks back home, living safe and happy lives,
While you are out there, perhaps in the front line,
Hoping and praying that everything will be fine.

God will give you your reward some day,
In the meanwhile I can pray for you,
your families, and all whom you love,
will be held forever in the everlasting arms
Of our great God above.

Remember all the soldiers who have fought and died for our country.

God bless you and have a great day!

Words

Lady of Light

In Proverbs, Chapter 18:4, the bible tells us, "The words of a man's mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook."

When you speak, or when you listen to people around you, do you experience the phenomena of a flowing brook? Too often, not, I am afraid. It is so important to pray and ask God and His spirit to guide our tongues so that wisdom flows. Although this verse doesn't mention it, I also believe that loving words are healing. We need to recognize the power of words - both our own and those of others and "allow wisdom to flow and love to flow." This means being patient and not being abrupt with people - even the cashier in the supermarket or someone in line. Think of the fact that a flowing brook is so smooth, refreshing and calm.

God Bless you and have a great day!

Obedience

Lady of Light

I came across this poem in one of my older notebooks. I do not know who the author is, but I think it is very well put and would like to share it:

I said, "Let me walk in the field."
He said, "No, walk in the town."
I said,l "There are no flowers there."
He said, "No flowers but a crown."

I said, "But the skies are black,
There is nothing but noise and din."
And He wept as he sent me back;
"There is more," he said,"There is sin."

I said "Butthe air is thick
And fogs are veiling the sun"
He said, "Yet souls are sick,
And souls in the dark undone."

I said, "I shall miss the light
And friends will miss me, they say."
He answered, "Choose tonight
If I am to miss you or they>"
I pleaded for time to be given,
He said, "Is it hard to decide?"
It will not seem hard in Heaven
To have followed the steps of your Guide."
I cast one look at the field,
Then set my face to the town;
He said, "My child do you yield?
Will you leave the flowers
for the crown?"

Then into His hand went mine;
And into my heart came He;
And I walk in a light divine,
The path I had feared to see.

Are we willing to make sacrifices to walk with Jesus? It is something we all need to think about. He sacrificed so much for us.

God bless you and have a great day!

National Day of Prayer

Lady of Light

Today is indeed a special day - it has been designated as the "National Day of Prayer".
It is awesome to think what a difference we can make as our nation calls out to God for change and for continued grace, mercy and wisdom for our leaders.

In Proverbs Chapter 18:10, it says, "The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into and and is safe." We need, especially on this day to acknowledge the truth of these words and to call on the name of the Lord on behalf of our country.

The words of the late John Fitzgerald Kennedy come to mind, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country." In the context of National Prayer Day, each one of us can take time out today to pray and may God bless this nation.

God bless you and have a great day!

Persecution

Lady of Light

In Acts 22:7-8, Paul (who was then named Saul) made a journey and came to Damascus
and suddenly there shone from heaven a great light round about him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice (the voice of Jesus) saying "Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou
me?" And he answered, Who art though, Lord? And he said unto him, "I am Jesus of Nazareth whom thou persecutist."

Saul had been a Jew and he was persecuting Christians as part of his religion, and was ignorant of what he was doing. He was doing what he had been taught to do in his faith.

It makes me wonder, how many "learned" behaviors, thoughts and feelings we may have and be unaware of, that, in effect, persecute Jesus. There are many Christians who do things that are not in the bible or that are not proper, and yet, don't realize that, like Paul, they are persecuting the Lord.

Take the time to pray and examine your life, even in the little things and ask God to show you if there is error in your thinking or in your ways. The Lord is good, and he is merciful to us, but sometimes we need to change.

May God bless you and have a great day!

Honor Your Parents

Lady of Light

In Ephesians Chapter 6:2-3, the bible tells us to "honor thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; tht it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth."

For young people today, it is important that they learn this lesson. But for those of us who are older, with children, and even grandchildren, it is important that we honor our parents even if they are no longer with us. In terms of positive memories, acknowledging the good things that we learned from them or by their example, so that we glorify God and are an example to our own children and grandchildren. This is not to say that our parents were perfect, but it is to say that if we are prayerful, we can truly thank God for our parents and think on the good that they did and the sacrifices they made for us.

This must have been an issue, even back in bible times because Paul speaks of it to the church at Ephesus. It is also interesting that this was the first commandment of "Promise" - that it would be well with you and you would live long on the earth."

I pray that the "wounds" would heal, if there are any, and that you would be able to meditate on the positives and appreciate the blessing that God intended parents to be, and to try to be a blessing to your children and grandchildren as well..

God bless you and have a great day!

Stewardship

Lady of Light

In 1 Corinthians 4:1-4, Paul speaks of us being a steward of the mysteries of God.
To understand what he meant by this, it is necessary to understand that in those days, servants had no position, but stewards did. A steward was a slave who administered all the affairs of his master's household, though he himself owned nothing. As a point of interest, Joseph held such a position in the house of Potiphar. (Genesis 39:2-19).

As stewards, we as believers manage the message and ministry that God has entrusted to us just as the Christians did in Paul's day.

In order to be good stewards of God's message, we need, not only to be prayerful, but to spend time in God's word so that we are prepared "in season and out of season" to communicate and so live God's truth.

Consider the fact that truth endures, and it permeates everything we think, say and do. Meditate on God's word today and pray that he will guide you in sharing and doing that which has been entrusted to you.

God bless you and have a great day!

Walking Worthily

Lady of Light

In Ephesians 4:1-6, the apostle Paul reminds us "Walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love: Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

I lived in a city where there were 85 churches - large and small, all competing with each other. This was certainly not in agreement with keeping the unity of the Spirit.
Often, if we are not careful, we do not experience the unity of Christ and the peace that He offers because we differ with people because they go to different churches etc.]

But Paul continues to remind us that there is One Lord, One Faith, One baptism and One God and Father of all, who is above all and through all, and in you all." (v. 5-7)

This realization should help us to "walk worthy" and to forbear one another in love.
We all serve the same God. He is over ALL of us.

Recognize that we have been called to a vocation. This is true spiritually, as well as in other areas of our lives - some of us are professionals, parents, wives, husbands - called to walk worthy in all areas of our lives.

Try today, to thank God for all of the "vocations" to which you have been called and to ask him to give you the right attitude - forbearance and may you be blessed in all that you do.

God bless you and have a great day!

Non-conformity

Lady of Light

In Romans 12:2, it tells us "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."

There are so many things that can pollute the mind - we don't have to look far to find them. But what renews our mind? It is the spirit of God that renews us, but what we eat, read, watch on TV, listen to on the radio, look at in the world around us, our conversations --everything effects this renewal process. But, most importantly, reading the word of God has renewing power. Meditating and praying has renewing power.
Ingesting the air God gave us and excersise makes the mind more alert.

I, for one, love the view out my front window - it is sky and beautiful tree tops - when I reflect on the miracle of creation and nature - particularly the trees - I experience renewal.

Find special ways to experience renewal today and do away with some of the "pollution".

God bless you and have a great day!
