Submission

Lady of Light

In 1 Peter 2:11-16, Peter gives much advice to believers that we also need to heed today:

"Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well. For so is the will of God that with well doing, ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: As free, and not using your liberty for a cloak of maliciousness, but as servants of God."

I especially like the way Peter addresses the people as "dearly beloved". This reminds me that we are all beloved children of God and that we so need to live with self-control and truth.

When I first rededicated my life to Christ and learned from the bible that we are "citizens of heaven", I wanted to know, "Do we still have to pay taxes as citizens of earth"? These verses certainly explained about submitting to the "ordinances of men" and to earthly authorities!!

Please meditate on this section of scripture, and ask the Lord to help you to grow into these attitudes and practices for the glory of God and for your own good as beloved children of God.

God bless you and have a great day!!
