Build on the Rock

Lady of Light

Several weeks ago my husband and I visited the Jersey shore - we didn't go to the beach but had a nice time milling around the town. This past week, however, there was a Northeaster storm in South Jersey and 6 counties are in a state of emergency. The films on the news showed that sand had washed up on the boardwalks and all over the place. It made me think of the wisdom of Jesus in Mathew7:24 where He said:

"Therefore, whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock."
"But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like the foolish man who built his house on the sand.
"And the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall."
"And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching. for He taught them as one having authority, not as the scribes." (Vs. 24-29)

There are several things to consider here. When we build our spiritual foundation on the "rock" of salvation and God's truth, we will not fall. There is a hymn that has the first verse, "On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand."

Also, we must consider that the people were astonished at the authority of Jesus and of the authority with which he spoke - not like the other teachers. There are many teachers in the world, but Jesus is the only one who speaks with the authority of God and the scriptures.

If we don't do what he says, we will not have wisdom and we are much more apt to fall. The good news is that "when we are weak, He is strong." Put your faith in Christ and abide in Him so that you can have the abundant life that God wants you to have.

Build your house upon the rock and with a good foundation.

When I was a child, one of my favorite stories was the "Three Little Pigs" - if you remember, the house made of brick could not be blown down by the big bad wolf.
This nursery rhyme may have taken its truth from the account Jesus gave in Mathew 7:24. I really don't know about this, but I certainly can see similarities.

Consider these words, and pray for heavenly wisdom.

God bless you and have a great day!
