The Angels and the Birth of Jesus

Lady of Light

In Luke:2:7-14, we find a description of the birth of Jesus and the visitation of the angel of the Lord upon them and then a multitude of the heavenly host:

"And she (Mary) brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. And there were in the same country, shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

And the angel said unto them, Fear not, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

And suddenly, there was with the angel, a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying:

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."

There was no room at the comfortable inn for Joseph and Mary, but still she was able to "bring forth" her son, Jesus, wrapping him and laying him in a manger. Although they were frightened initially by the visitation of the angel, the angel reassured them not to be afraid. The angel identified the child as our Savior, Jesus Christ the Lord and indeed confirmed who that blessed child in swaddling clothes in the manger was! You can imagine the excitement and wonder that they must have experienced. They received a special sign from God through the angel. After that, there was praising and wishes for peace on earth and good will toward men.
As we go about each day, it is good to bring about peace in our lives and good will towards others and to always praise God for the miracle of the birth of Jesus. Think today, of ways to bring about God's peace and good will in your life and I know you will be blessed!

God Bless You and have a great day!
